The Africa Cup of Nations will use video reviews for the first time at this year's tournament, from the quarterfinals onwards.
Hassan Waberi, chairman of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) referees committee, said the African body will go ahead with the technology in Egypt after consulting with FIFA and UEFA.
“VAR at the forthcoming Cup of Nations in Egypt will begin from the quarter-finals of the competition,” Waberi said.
FIFA approved VAR for last year's World Cup in Russia and it will also be used at the European Championship next year, the first time for that tournament.
Before that, VAR was introduced to the CAF Champions League final for the first time last November and the 2018 CAF Super Cup match.
While VAR has been both lauded and loathed by footballers and officials, its use at the World Cup in Russia this year was considered "largely successful" by FIFA.

Waberi, speaking during a visit to Djibouti by CAF president Ahmad, said African referees attended a recent VAR training camp in South Africa, adding that they are currently at another in Morocco, and will have a final training camp in Egypt before the African Cup kicks off.
Egypt will host the Cup of Nations for the fifth time this June and July, with 24 teams participating for the first time in an expanded format.
