China’s ride-hailing company Didi Chuxing announced it will enter Japan’s taxi market in a joint venture launched with SoftBank, the company said in a press release on Thursday.
The joint venture will offer on-demand taxi-hailing services for citizens and tourists in the world’s third largest economy, and help taxi companies improve their efficiency.
DiDi plans to roll out its ride-matching app for riders, drivers and taxi operators in Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Tokyo and other major cities starting from autumn this year. Meanwhile, the Chinese version app will also be available in Japan for hailing taxis, the company said.
