The place is famous for its diatomite deposits, one of the few of such kinds that boasts its abundant well-preserved fossils hidden inside. The deposits were formed about 18 million years ago. With the help of wind erosion, the area has been carved into a magnificent library of nature packed with a myriad of countless stone bookshelves.

On top of the deposits splendor, the number of perfectly preserved animal and plants fossils demonstrates another trademark for the place. Up until now, fossils found covers over 600 species. It is the home to the most abundant bird fossils in China.
