Do Muoi, former general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, died on Monday night at the age of 101, according to Vietnam's Central Commission of Health Care for Senior Officials.

Do Muoi passed away at 11:12 p.m. local time (1612 GMT) at the 108 Central Military Hospital in Hanoi capital after a long time of serious illness,.

Do Muoi, who was born in February 1917, was general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee from June 1991 to December 1997.

He visited China in 1991, 1995 and 1997.
