China hopeful about a final consensus between UK and the EU

Both the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom are China's comprehensive strategic partners, and their prosperity, stability and openness are to the benefits of every party, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said in a regular press briefing on Monday.
Geng made the comments when responding to a question concerning the EU's approval of the Brexit withdrawal treaty and a declaration outlining a future free trading relationship between the two in the past weekend.
The Chinese spokesperson said China expects the UK and the EU to finally reach a consensus on Brexit. The Chinese policy to simultaneously move forward the China-EU and the China-UK bilateral relationship will stay unchanged, he stressed, adding that China is willing to make new contributions to world peace, stability and prosperity with the other two partners.
