China's Xiong Jingnan was taking on Samara Santos of Brazil in her second title defense of the women's straw-weight belt with mixed martial arts and the One Championships in Shanghai. She dominated on both the ground and her feet to extend her record to 16-1.
The 30-year-old's last bout was just three months ago when she defended her strap by beating Argentina's Laura Balin also in Shanghai where she clearly enjoyed the home support.
Xiong got right to work battering the Brazilian with a barrage of punches in the first round. But Santos was later able to take the back of the Chinese, but could not do much with it as Xiong was able to fight off her attempts at a rear naked choke.
"I don't know whether you guys notice or not, maybe you could only see my back on the camera when she jumped on me, but actually I was smiling at that time. That didn't mean I was laughing at her; just that meant I knew I could get rid of her," Xiong said at the press.
Xiong showed a range of skills like this spinning attack that she followed with a knee that knocked Santos down.
Xiong was quickly able to mount the Brazilian and tees off with strikes, but Santos got to round three.
There Xiong ended it with a vicious right hand, and the referee has seen enough. She made an impressive TKO victory.
"I feel happy for my second successful defense, but I will focus more on my weaknesses exposed tonight, and prepare for my next fight," Xiong said.
Xiong's next fight will be against Atom-weight champion Angela Lee in Singapore in November.
