Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone call on Friday to discuss the economic ties between the two countries, the Kremlin said in a statement.
Putin and Erdogan discussed economic and trade relations, strategic partnerships in energy projects and their ongoing cooperation in the defense industry sectors, according to the statement.
They also discussed recent developments in Syria and the Astana process.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will pay a visit to the Turkish capital Ankara on Aug. 13 and 14 where he will hold talks with Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on recent developments in Syria and other regional issues.
Erdogan had already urged Putin in a meeting in South Africa last month to stop a potential military operation by Damascus into the region where the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) built 12 observation posts, as part of a three-way deal with guarantor countries Russia and Iran.
The phone conversation was held after US President Donald Trump announced higher tariffs on imports from Turkey with duties of 20 percent on aluminum and 50 percent on steel.
