Every year, Chinese President Xi Jinping visits grassroots communities just before the Chinese Lunar New Year. This year he paid a visit to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, a place known to many as one of the country's most poverty-stricken areas. 

2013年以来，每到春节来临之际，习近平总书记都要到基层考察调研，看望困难群众，了解基层实情。今年春节前夕，他来到四川省凉山彝族自治州考察脱贫攻坚。

Liangshan is a beautiful area, but isn't wealthy. As a result of limited infrastructure, 11 out of its 17 counties remained poverty-stricken in 2017.

凉山是一片美丽却并不富饶的土地。因为基础设施落后，截至2017年，全州的17个县中有11个是深度贫困县。
