The U.S. should discard the Cold War mentality and take concrete actions to maintain international peace and stability, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Friday.
She expressed China's strong dissatisfaction with the Ballistic Missile Defense Review published by the U.S. Department of Defense on Thursday, which claims that China is a threat.
The Ballistic Missile Defense Review, according to Hua, emphasizes geopolitical rivalries and power games while ignoring peace and development. The report is of no help to maintaining regional peace and security but hinders the process of international nuclear disarmament, triggers an arms race and destroys global strategic balance.
"China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposes [the review]," Hua stressed.
She then reiterated China's security concept of using political and diplomatic means to resolve proliferation issues.
China is committed to peaceful development and is pursuing a defensive national defense policy. "China has no intention of posing threats to any country, including the United States," said Hua.
