A burning skyscraper in the center of Sao Paulo, Brazil collapsed early on Tuesday, killing at least one person, according to a local fireman.
Three others are still missing, Sao Paulo Fire Brigade Lieutenant André Elias told Globo TV.
The fire began inside the building at around 1:30 a.m. local time. It was formerly a headquarters for the federal police but had been officially abandoned for many years and was frequently occupied by squatters, according to AP.
At least 57 fire engines were deployed to the scene, local media reported.
TV footage shows the multi-story building collapsing as flames rage. Debris could be seen smashing into the ground and filling surrounding streets.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
