The death toll from Indonesia's deadly quake and subsequent tsunami on Sulawesi island has risen to 1,424, an official from the national disaster mitigation agency said on Thursday. That number is widely expected to increase as most of the dead accounted for have been from the small coastal city of Palu. Figures for remote areas are trickling in or remain unknown and altogether, the badly affected areas include some 1.4 million people.
