Sericulture originated in China and is a cultural symbol of the nation. With a history of more than 5,000 years, silk-making is a lengthy and complicated process which includes planting mulberry, raising silkworms, unreeling silk, making thread, weaving fabric, dyeing and embroidery. In 2009, sericulture and silk craftsmanship joined the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
