A chartered plane belonging to the state government crashed in a busy area of India's Mumbai on Thursday, killing at least five people, local police said.
"The pilot, three passengers and a pedestrian died in the crash," the Mumbai Police said in a statement.
The plane, a Beechcraft King Air C90 turboprop, crashed in an open area adjacent to a building site in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area and burst into flames just before landing, sources said.
Several fire engines have been pressed into service to douse the flames, a senior fire brigade official said. "We have recovered all the charred bodies," he added.
