Thousands of Iranians rallied on November 4 to mark the 39th anniversary of the takeover and hostage crisis at the US embassy in Tehran, Iran. With the anniversary coinciding with renewed US sanctions, the crowd was reportedly bigger this year. The Trump administration announced the restoration of sanctions on Iran’s shipping, financial and energy sectors on November 2, the second batch of penalties to be restored after the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement in May.
