Int'l expo in Beijing showcases trends in information communication technology

2018 China International Information Communication Technology (ICT) Expo kicked off in Beijing on Wednesday.
The three-day event draws over 400 exhibitors and some 60,000 visitors for the latest trends in the sector. With the theme of "Digitalization and Intelligence," it showcases new products, technologies and concepts.

At the opening ceremony, Miao Wei, Chinese minister of Industry and Information Technology welcomed global participants and gave highlights of the exhibition.
"The expo will demonstrate trends as the economy transitions into one driven by data, Internet-based connectivity, deep artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation in high-end production," Miao said.
Noting the fast development of the industry, an expert said during a forum that changes are needed to welcome the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of the Internet, which will come next year.
Wu Jiangxing, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that participants need to innovate the Internet-enabling technologies to make the smart Internet to attain a multi-modal development to match the real world.
But the most important part of the expo is technologies. There are many new examples.

With the new progress like in 5G technology, remote control of production lines from faraway becomes reality. A developer for China Mobile said that with the technology, production has more flexible networking and better mobility. People can have the virtual reality experience from a museum even at home.
Yu Zhuang, deputy IT director of the Palace Museum, also praised the new trend. “With 5G technologies, no matter the location and time, you can see the antiquities with high definition. To some extent, it can be an experience better than that in a museum."

Such progress is happening not only in the network infrastructure, but in AI, cloud and data, and smart city construction.
Organizers say this year's expo aims to give further impetus to global coordination in ICT innovation, and build a community with a shared future.
