A Nepalese Sherpa climber has created history by conquering the Mt. Qomolangma summit for a record 23rd time this morning. 49-year-old Kami Rita became the only mountaineer in the world to hold the record for most summits on the world’s highest mountain peak, also known as Sagarmatha in Nepal.
Nepal's local media reported this morning that the legendary mountaineer made his world record mark early in the day and the confirmation came from Mingma Sherpa, company chairman at Seven Summit Treks, who said that the Sherpa from Thame Village of Solukhumbu district successfully climbed the majestic mountain peak at around 7:50 a.m. from the Nepalese side.

Interestingly, he broke his own record on the iconic Himalayan peak, standing tall at 8844.43 meters, on the border between Nepal and China. Last year, the Sherpa climbed the peak for the then record of the 22nd time.
According to Nepalese media reports, the base camp officials said that Kami Rita started his summit push from Camp IV on Tuesday night and reached the summit point on Wednesday morning.
Kami Rita has already climbed most of the peaks above 8,000 meters including K2, Cho-Oyu, Lhoste and Annapurna, among others. His first successful climb to the top of Mt. Qomolangma was way back in 1994.
