Mi Yingla, a villager in Mengla County in southwest China's Yunnan Province, said goodbye to her black bear after handing it over to local forestry authorities. Mi found the bear very weak at a border market six years ago and bought it with 120 yuan (roughly 17.4 US dollars) out of compassion. The bear was identified as an Asian black bear, which is a second-class animal under state protection in China.
