Relations between China and the Cook Islands go way back in history, and close contact between the two sides remained in the modern era. In 2003, a Chinese company aided the Cook Islands with a series of infrastructure projects, one of which was Apii Nikao Primary School. The school has since been called “Nihao School” by locals.
