According to Shevaughan Tolputt, 37, from Cornwall, she found the creature after peeling off the outer layers of a lettuce. At first, she noticed something crawling, then a pair of small eyes appeared. /VCG Photo

She called her husband immediately. They took pictures as evidence and shared them on Twitter. In an interview with the BBC, Ms Tolputt said that she could see the funny side of the incident, and joked about having no choice but to “avoid any protein like that.” /VCG Photo
