Two spectacular solar halos were spotted over the city of Zhangjiakou in north China. The halos on both sides of the sun offered a rare view of "three suns" when seen from a distance. The spectacle lasted nearly 10 minutes. According to meteorologists, a solar halo is an atmospheric optical phenomenon. It is caused by ice crystals formed from water vapor and condensed at a high enough altitude. The ice crystals refract with the incoming sunlight to create a luminous halo.
