2009 US Open winner and No. 3 seed Juan Martin del Potro will meet two-time champion (2011 and 2015) and No. 6 seed, Novak Djokovic in men's singles final of the 2018 US Open on Sunday. Djokovic has the chance to equal Pete Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slam titles with a win, and the two-time champion enjoys an impressive head-to-head record over the 29-year-old Argentine, winning 14 of their 18 matches.
"I've played him many times on different occasions. We've never faced each other in a Grand Slam final, so that's something new. But I know what's expecting me. I'll try to prepare myself as best as I can," Djokovic said. “There are few other things that I have in mind, knowing him from the matches we previously played against each other. I'll try to take that in consideration and get myself ready."
Del Potro is in just his second-ever major final, in the city where he won his one and only championship almost a decade ago. And after overcoming career threatening wrist injuries, he is amazed to have the chance to win one more at Flushing Meadows.
"I can't believe that I will have a chance to play another Grand Slam final, in here, which is my favorite tournament. It will be difficult match of course but anyways I think I've been doing a good tournament and in the finals everything can happen so if I win would be great, if not I've been playing a great tournament and I will be happy anyways," said Del Potro.
