The BRICS Seminar on Governance started in the South African city of Johannesburg on Wednesday, aiming to promote the institutionalization of experiences in governance among the five member countries.
More than 100 officials – mainly former dignitaries from BRICS members and think tanks – attended the meeting.
The theme of this year's seminar is "contributing BRICS wisdom to global governance in the interests of the people."
It was jointly organized by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the South African National School of Government.
During Wednesday's session, delegates from BRICS members emphasized that the exchanges and discussions of governance and mutual learning were of great significance for member countries to achieve greater development in the future.
They also called on the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, an idea brought up by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013.
The concept is to reform and improve the existing international order and to encourage global and regional cooperation to help both developing and developed countries to provide public goods and to narrow the North-South gap and imbalances, Fu Ying, former chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, China's legislature, explained.

The seminar comes weeks ahead of the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. Leaders from BRICS countries are expected to attend the summit.
It has been 10 years since the inception of BRICS, and the block has grown into an important platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries. According to the IMF, BRICS countries generated 22.53 percent of the world GDP in 2015 and contributed more than 50 percent of world economic growth during the last 10 years.
CGTN Africa's Jerry Omondi says expanding cooperation on governance is important for boosting the second Golden Decade of BRICS cooperation.
The first BRICS Seminar on Governance was held in China in 2017, during which member states decided that the seminar would be held each year.
