China will engage in innovation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with all parties by pursuing four major initiatives, namely scientific and people-to-people exchanges, joint research labs, technology park cooperation and technology transformation, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at the opening ceremony of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on Friday.
"Innovation produces productivity, which makes companies competitive and countries strong," Xi said, calling for keeping up with the trend of the fourth industrial revolution, jointly seizing opportunities created by digital, network and smart development.
He also stressed the significance of exploring new technologies, new forms, and new models of development, hoping to build a digital and innovation silk road by fostering new growth drivers and a new development pathway.
China will actively implement the talent exchange program, offering 5,000 opportunities in the coming five years for exchange, training, and cooperative research for talents in China and other BRI countries, Xi stated.
Companies in different countries will also be encouraged to promote information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and cyber connectivity, he added.
