UK Prime Minister Theresa May extended her warm New Year greetings to the Chinese People on Tuesday.
In her message, May said many cities across the UK including London, Manchester, and Liverpool have hung up red lanterns for the day as thousands of millions of people across the world have gathered together to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.
"Wherever and however you are celebrating, let me wish you a very happy New Year and a prosperous and auspicious Year of the Pig," May said.
Earlier at a Chinese New Year celebration reception hosted at 10 Downing Street, she also said that she cherished relations between the UK and China while delivering warm wishes.
She noted that last year the two countries reached an important consensus on promoting the "Golden Era" for China-UK ties.
In the Year of the Pig, the UK is willing to work with China to maintain intensive high-level exchanges and achieve more in various fields, she said.
