A Guinness world record for "most people painting vases simultaneously" was achieved Sunday in Jingdezhen, east China's Jiangxi Province.

A total of 1,131 potters painted on ceramic vases for two hours Sunday during a local event held at a stadium in Jingdezhen, also dubbed as China's ceramic capital.

To count, the painting had to cover at least three-fifth of the vase surface and contained at least two colors.

Having been witnessed by Marco Frigatti, general manager of the Greater China region for Guinness, and certification officer Wu Xiaohong, the event was awarded the record certificate.

Jingdezhen boasts a pottery production history of more than 1,000 years. The area's favorable climate and unique clay combined to create ceramics that were of such a high quality that they were a popular royal tribute in ancient China. Today, the city is a magnet for many ceramic artists from both China and abroad.
