The 3rd United Nations Senior National Planners Course has concluded in Beijing. The two-week training, which drew 43 senior military and police officers from 26 countries, is designed to enhance and develop UN peacekeeping operations.
This was the first time the course was held in China, a major contributing force to UN peacekeeping missions.

This year's UN senior national planners course continues with a focus on executing multiple tasks, for a single goal.
Rafarl Barbieri, a senior instructor from the UN Peacekeeping Operations Department said that this course is aimed at helping senior national planners and advisers to actually generate the forces to prepare, to train, and deploy the troops in the countries for their peacekeeping missions.
The course covers and involves negotiations, preparations, deployment, maintenance, and rotations for certain missions. It also includes the most updated UN administrative and technical procedures.
Those trainees will rely on these guidelines in the most complicated situations in the future.

"We learned about the multi-national environment that this thing will happen in the real world when we were to the missions," said Warisara Jaipiam, a colonel from Thailand.
Syed Atif Munawar Shah, a colonel from Pakistan said that at the end of the course, when he goes back to his country, he would be more enlightened and will be better equipped to handle peacekeeping operations.
Certificates for completing the course were issued to those trainees.

"Actions by the UN secretariat alone will not be enough. To improve the performance of the impact of our mission, success will depend on all of you," said Rafarl Barbieri.
A pilot course was held back in 2016 in Serbia, while the second was held earlier this year in Cairo.
As world security situation becomes increasingly complicated, a better coordination is required in peacekeeping missions, not only for ordinary people, but also for those involved in the protective operations.
