Why Captain Marvel is a film you can't miss

The official Twitter account for the film "Captain Marvel" released its second official trailer on Monday (December 3) night. The trailer, following the first one released in September, has aroused high attention and debate on Twitter under the hashtag #CaptainMarvel.

According to the official tweet, the film will come to theaters on March 8, 2019. Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind), "Captain Marvel" will become the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Set in 1995, the film tells the story of Carol Danvers, a female superhero, who served as a fighter pilot for the U.S. Air Force but later gained superpowers because of an accident. It explores adventures in the universe before the time of Captain America and Iron Man.

In 2016, the Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson was confirmed to star in the film as the heroine, Carol Danvers. Moreover, the film is also the first female-led superhero film produced by Marvel Studios.

According to the Marvel website, the superhero Carol Danvers has superhuman strength and stamina, and has the ability to fly swiftly and project energy. She is a character with an iron will, which can make her appear stubborn sometimes. The character has been regarded as one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Actually, as fans may have noticed, at the end of the film "Avengers: Infinity War," there is a credit scene showing Fury using a pager to contact someone. The pager falls onto the ground, and a symbol of Captain Marvel shows up on its screen.

As a female-led solo film, "Captain Marvel" is inevitably compared with "Wonder Woman" produced by DC entertainment, RatPac Entertainment, and China's Tencent Pictures. Released in 2017, "Wonder Woman" had an outstanding box office, and won many awards, including one of the Top 10 Movies of the Year by the American Film Institute. Its sequel, "Wonder Woman 1984," will be released in 2020.

Both films have significant implications for gender-equality, as most superhero films are fronted by males. Depicted as strong, determined, and almighty, female superheroes are breaking traditional stereotypes on the silver screen.
