China's self-developed jetliner ARJ21-700 completes first manned overwater flight

By Gao Yun

China's self-developed jetliner ARJ21-700 completed its first manned overwater flight in the southernmost province of Hainan on Tuesday, displaying its adaptability to tropical marine climate.

The demonstration flight took off from Haikou Meilan International Airport and landed about 2.5 hours at the same airport.

The jetliner can well adapt to the takeoff and landing conditions of airports in central and western China, and better meet the operational needs of Urumqi Air, China's third airline to operate ARJ21-700, helping it further expand branch network and open up more air routes in northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The demonstration flight also extended the domestic flight area of the aircraft. ARJ21-700 jetliner has now arrived at dozens of airports in China, which fully verifies its adaptability in the high-temperature, high-humidity plateau and frigid regions and lays a foundation for future large-scale delivery and operation.
