First high-speed train linking HK to Chinese mainland goes into operation

CGTN

The Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link officially went into operation on Sunday, as a high-speed train left Hong Kong West Kowloon Station at 7 a.m. to head for Shenzhen North Station in southern Guangdong Province on the Chinese mainland. While on the mainland, a bullet train left Shenzhen North Station at 6:44 a.m. for the West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong, now a special administrative region (SAR) of China.

According to the operating arrangements announced by the Hong Kong SAR government, the Express Rail Link can travel to 44 destinations. Such methods will, therefore, realize what is described as a "one-hour living circle" for Hong Kong residents, connecting cities in south China's Greater Bay Area and greatly reducing rail travel time to Beijing from 24 hours to nine.
