Probably the most focused on number at the Two Sessions is China’s growth target. If China’s economy were a car, most of the attention is being paid to the speedometer, less on the road signs, the bumps and even the wind direction. By all accounts, there is a slowdown in the 13-trillion-U.S.-dollar economy. Auto sales are down – about a third of Chinese listed companies said profit fell in 2018. Property sales eased. And on the personal spending front, Chinese New Year spending growth slowed to single digits.
