Chinese President Xi Jinping extended Happy New Year greetings to officials working in poverty-stricken villages, as well as hundreds of millions of villagers on Friday. During a video chat, Xi also talked with the local "first secretary," a Party cadre who was specifically assigned to rural areas to carry out poverty alleviation work.
