China Pavilion Day was celebrated at the ongoing 2019 International Horticulture Expo on Thursday in Beijing.
"Splendid China" was the theme of a performance that greeted visitors at the China Pavilion at Beijing's premier flower show.
A spirited drum dance kicked off the festivities, followed by another highlight, "The Pear Blossom" – a routine combining Peking Opera with ballet.
The syncretic performance echoed the expo's spirit of cultural diversity, intertwining civilizational elements from the East and the West. Next up was a demonstration of flower arrangement skills, staged to the tune of traditional Chinese instruments, like the konghou.
Green themes and messages promoting ecological protection were ringing out across the venue. The harmony between the instruments and the performers reflected a deeper harmony between mankind and nature.
The event's attendees were just some of the nearly two million visitors that have come to the expo since its doors first opened in April.
The flower show's gardens and pavilions have proven to be a big draw. More than 600 smaller events have already been held. With more events lining up on the schedule, it's safe to say that eager audience will continue to pour in.
