Chinese wild card entry Wu Yibing beat his compatriot Li Zhe 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the second round of the Shanghai Masters on Monday – the 18-year-old's first victory in a main draw of an ATP Tour event.

Wu, who won the US Open junior boys title in both singles and doubles last year, would fight back with a forehand while trailing 2-0 in the first set.

Leading 3-2, Li tried to go over Wu's head, but the 18-year-old came up with a smash and later took the first set in a tiebreaker.

In the match point for Wu and a big serve set him up for his 32nd winner as he took the second 6-2. He'll next face eighth seed Kei Nishikori.

Stan Wawrinka stunned by Borna Coric

Also, three-time grand slam champion Stan Wawrinka was up against Borna Coric. Wawrinka needed a wildcard to get in as the Swiss is still recovering from knee surgery last summer, but looked sharp and took the first set 6-4.

But Coric bounced back in the second set, and he saved two breaking points and broke the decisive game to make it 6-4. In the third set, Wawrinka committed double faults and unforced errors in his serve to give Coric 3-1 advantage.

Then Coric held out her serves for the rest of the set and closed out the match in one hour and 58 minutes. A 6-3 set for Coric in the third and he's moving on to face American qualifier Bradley Klahn in the second round.

That's because Klahn upset a lacklustre Nick Kyrgios who spent much of the match arguing with the chair umpire.
