This revered Beijing kite store, surrounded by a jungle of bright-colored handcrafted kites in animal shapes like swallows, butterflies, eagles, and dragonflies in intricate details, has been around for more than a century. /VCG Photo
The family of its owner, Liu Bin, has managed to retain the lost art of kite-making by hand since the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), when Liu's great-grandfather used to be a craftsman making lanterns, fans and kites for the nobles in the Imperial Palace. /VCG Photo
His great-grandfather later founded the family business which has kept the traditions alive and well. From the frame, painting to the paste of the kites, kites are all hand-made at the store with silk or paper covering a bamboo frame. /VCG Photo
In China, the history of kite dates back to 2,000 years, and kite flying is regarded as a traditional pastime. /VCG Photo
