“20 or 30 years ago, there were always very simple subjects, now there are many subjects and different points of view and people say exactly what they want to say,” Nick Fraser, British documentary producer and director, said to CGTN.
Japanese documentary director Tetsuaki Matsue, said he was more interested in the technical side of documentary-making, adding that advances in digital technology has drastically reduced the cost of making documentaries.
Having started out with an autobiographical documentary “Goodbye, Kimchi” and later made a name with works including: “The Otaku Man Knows Something” and “Flashback Memory 3D,” Matsue said the changes in how documentaries are made present a great opportunity for today’s young documentary makers.
