A baby hippo born last month made its public debut on June 8 in south China's Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park.
Although the hippo cub is less than one month old, it has grown to 70 centimeters in length, 40 centimeters in tall and weighs 80 kilograms.
As the hippo cub cannot sense its own body temperature yet, its mother will take it into the water to cool off every once in a while.
Then, following its mother's lead, the baby hippo strives to be a good swimmer by learning how to dive in shallow water.
"We assess its health condition by observing how often it is milked per day. Its weight is also an indicator of its physical condition. It currently weighs 80 kilograms and is gaining weight at a fair rate every day.” said Chen Siming, the hippo breeder at the park.
