Xi sends congratulatory letter to first SCO media summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the media to promote the "Shanghai Spirit" and practical cooperation and friendship between the people of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
Xi made the remarks in a congratulatory letter to the first SCO media summit held on Friday in Beijing.
The president stressed the growing importance of media in promoting mutual understanding among people of all countries.
The SCO media summit is a new mechanism for media cooperation which was brought forward by Xi at last year’s SCO meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, to promote exchange and participation in the field of humanities. Xi said he believed this summit will play an active role in bringing together the strength of the organization.
In the letter, Xi said China firmly supports the development of the SCO and is willing to join hands with all parties to build a closer regional community with a shared future and promote the building a community with shared future for mankind.
The 2018 SCO summit will be held on June 9-10 in the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao.
