More than a core member of the art group known as the Pictures Generation and a female pioneer in the contemporary art scene, Cindy Sherman is one of the most influential artists of her time. Now, the trailblazer's solo exhibition at the Fosun Foundation is underway in Shanghai. It's the first of its kind in China.
The exhibition features 128 iconic works that span Cindy Sherman's more than four decade career in creativity. There's also documentary materials and archival footage.
Alongside the classics, nine new works by the pioneering artist are getting their global debut.

Exhibition Director Doris Duanmu hopes the pieces on display can reflect the course of the artist's creative development - from the 1970s to the present - and demonstrate the profound impact she has had on contemporary art.
Since the 1970s, the versatile artist has been self-directed in her photographic pursuits. She has often featured as the protagonist at the center of her images, combining the role of the stage with the camera and establishing a lasting and unique style.
Among the works, there are the images of women straddling a strange line. Traditional yet modern, acting seductively but with dignity.

Her artistic practice and ideas are brimming with an irreverent spirit that has subverted definitions of photography and aesthetic convention with a healthy dose of postmodernism.
Born in 1954, in the US state of New Jersey, Cindy Sherman now lives and works in neighboring New York.
The photo show is part of the 20th China Shanghai International Arts Festival, until January 13 next year.
