Today marks Valentine's Day, a Western festival that has also been widely embraced in China as lovers look for more reasons to celebrate their love.
In Shanghai, like other big cities, couples are exchanging gifts, with flowers and chocolates topping the list. Flower and chocolate sales have soared in the past few days in China as Valentine's Day approached.
Business for florists in Shanghai is also blooming. The price of roses has increased about 20 percent year-on-year due to increased demand and logistics costs. In addition to roses, the sale of imported flowers has also picked up.
Meanwhile, chocolate has also seen strong sales. A store in Shanghai's Songjiang district designated a section just for sweet concoctions for the occasion.
