The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Supervisory Commission is investigating Li Shixiang, former vice chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, for suspected serious violations of Party disciplinary rules and law, the top anti-graft agency said on its website on Saturday.

In March this year, China's draft supervision law was passed at the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), legalizing a more sophisticated and efficient anti-graft network.

The law is expected to serve as a fundamental and guiding instrument against corruption and for state supervision, aimed at enhancing the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on anti-corruption campaigns.

The Supervision Law is a highlight in the reform of China's supervisory system. A pilot reform began in Beijing, Shanxi and Zhejiang in December 2016, and then expanded nationwide in November 2017.

Under the Supervision Law, national, provincial, city and county supervisory commissions have been created, merging existing bodies and pool resources to create a centralized, thus more effective system.
