CES Asia 2018: Smarter and cleaner cars expected to dominate the market

The fourth Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Asia is being held in east China's Shanghai from June 13 to 15. This year features the largest vehicle technology exhibition to date, with leading automakers and vehicle tech companies showcasing their new self-driving technologies and their latest concept cars.
Smart and electric cars are some of the most expensive and entertaining consumer electronics products at the show.

Carsten Breitfeld, Byton’s CEO told CGTN that their K-Byte is the show car for a potential new sedan, which could come to the market at the beginning of 2021. So their market strategy is they are going to enter the market by the end of next year with their SUVs, making China their biggest market.
Indeed, China has been the world’s largest car market for years. Many say this is the perfect market for advancements in self-driving technology.

And these automakers have been upgrading their technology to improve the driving experience. Jacob Tretter, Cadillac’s program engineering manager told CGTN that they actually have informeters on the steering wheel so they can see through sunglasses and see people's faces at night, know exactly how long the driver has been looking away from the road and bring them back with gentle reminders – one way is flashing the light bar green.

Mitsubishi Electric’s Tomoya Yamakawa said they found there are two major trends in the auto industry now. One is electric cars, because being environmentally friendly is becoming increasingly important. The other is the changing nature of human-machine interaction in the age of autonomous driving.

These smart cars are a mixture of technology and mobility, and consumers are expecting safer and more connected vehicles and mobility solutions.
