China wins Weiqi team gold at IMSA World Masters Championships

China picked up the first gold medal with five wins in five matches as the home side beat Europe 3-0 in the Men's Weiqi team event at the IMSA World Masters Championships in Hengshui, north China's Hebei Province.
The hosts got off to a great start as star player Ke Jie took the opening game after beating Mateusz Surma from Poland. Then Mi Yuting and Gu Zihao clinched the remaining two games by defeating Ilya Shikshin from Russia and Pavol Lisy of Slovakia respectively.
On the women's side, China finished second with four wins and one loss, and the gold went to South Korea. Meanwhile, the Chinese duo of Mi and Yu Zhiying were eliminated in the first round in mixed doubles.
Earlier, China picked up two wins in the men's and women's Xiangqi, also known as “Chinese Chess,” to sit on top of the standings.
In the men's event, China's Wang Tianyi was in a clash of invincibles as the 30-year-old grandmaster clinched another victory against Malaysia's Look Kong DWO to stay on top of the table with 6 points.
In the women's event, 19-year-old Chinese Tang Dan also kept her winning record by beating Singapore's Chen Mingfang, three out of three to lead the standings. In the men's rapid chess of 15 minutes, American Leinier Dominguez beat Russian Dmitry Andreikin and was in first place with four points. China's Yu Yangyi and Pu Xiangzhi finished with a draw, and both have two points after day two.
In the women's event, China's Zhao Xue managed a draw against Russian former world champion Alexandra Kosteniuk. Zhao shared first place with two others with 5 and a half points.
