China confirms holding of meeting for five nuclear states

China will host the first formal meeting in two years of the five main nuclear nations on January 30, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Thursday.
The meeting in Beijing will seek greater coordination between China, the U.S., Russia, the UK and France, she said.
It is also aimed at maintaining the mechanism built on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, according to Hua.
She added that the five countries are going to discuss nuclear disarmament, nonproliferation of nuclear weapons and the peaceful use of nuclear power.
Speaking of the increasing instability and uncertainty around the globe, Hua urged the five countries to strengthen cooperation and manage differences to maintain international peace and security.
