German Chancellor Angela Merkel will pay an official visit to China from May 24 to 25 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, announced Lu Kang, spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a regular press conference on Friday.
Merkel is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other high-level officials. The two sides are expected to exchange views on China - Germany ties as well as many other key international issues.
Spokesman Lu said China highly appreciates its relationship with Germany, amid the frequent high-level exchanges and people-to-people communication between the two nations. China would like to continue pushing forward its cooperation with Germany on the basis of mutual respect.
Merkel's upcoming visit will mark her 11th time visiting China since her inauguration as chancellor.
