The death toll from Indonesia's quake and tsunami has climbed to 1,649, with more than a thousand maybe still missing on Sulawesi Island. Rescue operations continue in the area, but hopes of finding anyone alive eight days after the disaster have faded. The United Nations aims to provide almost 200,000 people in Indonesia with aid over the next three months, and is seeking more than 50 million US dollars for immediate relief.
