The Potala Palace in Lhasa, the regional capital of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, is home to large quantities of precious books. Nearly 40,000 volumes of antique texts in Mandarin, Tibetan, Manchu, Mongolian and Sanskrit, including about 30,000 pattra-leaf scriptures, are kept in the immense religious complex. Behind the huge collection is a group of people devoted to protecting and repairing the historic texts.
