President Xi Jinping presides over meeting on economy, anti-corruption

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a meeting of the committee's Political Bureau on Thursday, which studied the economic work for 2019 and planned work for building good conduct and political integrity within the CPC as well as fighting corruption. 
The meeting reviewed the progress made in maintaining stable growth and high-quality development. The year 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and is the key year for the first centenary goal of comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society. 
To accelerate the economic work next year, President Xi called for fully implementing the overall plan to promote the country's economic, political, cultural, social, and ecological progress. 
He also asked the strategic blueprint, known as the Four-pronged Strategy – to complete a moderately prosperous society in all respects, to further reform, to advance the rule of law, and to strengthen Party discipline.
The Chinese president said China will continue to fight the three tough battles, which are preventing and defusing financial risks, targeted poverty alleviation, and pollution control. 
He encouraged integrating the advanced manufacturing and modern service industries, forming a strong domestic market, and enhancing the overall level of the national economy. 
He urged to solidly promote rural revitalization, regional coordinated development, economic reform, and people's livelihood. 
The meeting analyzed the domestic and international environment, stressing the need to see both challenges and opportunities amid complex situations. 
As for the progress on anti-corruption, it required the country's watchdogs to never let its guard down while encouraging high-ranking officials to prioritize people's interests while carrying out their work.
