Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Malaysia's former Prime Minister Najib Razak, was charged on 17 counts of money laundering and tax evasion on Thursday.
She was arrested on Wednesday by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and spent the night in detention.
Her arrest followed three rounds of questioning by anti-graft officials over state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The charges against her were read out by prosecutors at a Kuala Lumpur court. She pleaded not guilty to all 17 counts of money launder and tax evasion charges.
Her husband Najib Razak, 65, has already been hit with a string of charges including corruption and money laundering and is out on bail following his spectacular fall from power in May elections.
Since the electoral defeat in May, Najib has been facing charges of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering, all of which are linked to a 42-million-ringgit (10.3 million US dollar) deposit transferred into his personal bank account by SRC International, a former unit of Malaysian state fund 1MDB.
