When the mountains are covered by heavy snow, this red goral finds it harder to go on with life. Fresh grasses and stems are gone so it has to forage on the plants deeply buried in the snow, using its hoofs to break through the heavy and cold cover before reaching anything it wishes. This is the only way the red goral can survive the harsh, bitter winter.

Red gorals are strong and agile climbers that are active during the day. They flee at the slightest sign of danger and sleep on sheltered ledges high up on cliffs at night. The earliest record of them can be traced back to 1863, but they are not identified as a species until 1961.
