Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed Myanmar's active participation in jointly building the Belt and Road during his meeting with Myanmar's State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday.
Myanmar formed a steering committee for implementation of tasks relating to the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative chaired by Suu Kyi. The committee is tasked to implement works relating to the establishment of China-Myanmar economic corridor (CMEC) and China-Myanmar border economic cooperation zone under the Belt and Road Initiative.
During the meeting, Xi expressed China's support for the domestic peace process and economic development in Myanmar and expected the two countries will further promote Belt and Road cooperation and the establishment of the CMEC in order to benefit two peoples.
Xi also hailed Myanmar's efforts in maintaining border stability, saying that China is willing to work with Myanmar in maintaining border security and stability.
Noting that next year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Myanmar diplomatic relations, Xi vowed to expand more pragmatic cooperation between the two sides
Suu Kyi appreciated China's support. She reiterated Myanmar's support for the Belt and Road Initiative, saying that the Belt and Road cooperation will benefit the well-being of the region and the globe as a whole.
She also pledged to work with China to jointly maintain border stability and safety.
